Wedding expo huge hit with brides-to-be

More than 70 brides-to-be flocked to McLeod Country Golf Club’s Wedding Expo yesterday to plan their special day with the help of a range of exhibitors.

Exhibitors at the expo ranged from specialising in hair and makeup to flowers, cakes, photography, gowns and suits and even ballroom dancing.

McLeod Country Golf Club General Manager Michael Richards was thrilled with the attendance and the overall vibe of the day.

“Brides-to-be and their families enjoyed browsing the exhibitor’s booths and the facilities McLeod has to offer as a wedding venue,” he said.

“The day was a huge hit with brides-to-be who relished in all things weddings with fashion parades, cake testing and food and wine sampling.

“The wedding expo is an annual event, giving us the opportunity to showcase McLeod as an ideal wedding venue.”

McLeod’s Westlake Room offers panoramic views of the golf course and lakes and is the ideal location for a wedding reception.

The balcony runs the entire length of the room and presents a perfect area for guests to enjoy pre-wedding drinks and savouries.

The Westlake Room provides its own private entrance and bar and a lounge and change room is available for the bridal party.

The club also is an ideal wedding ceremony venue, offering fantastic views onto one of the many lakes and water courses.

McLeod Golf Club warms up for annual Holden Scramble event

Teams of women golfers will tee off with one thing in mind at McLeod Country Golf Club on Friday, August 5 2011.

They will all be aiming to move one step closer to a possible start in the final of the Holden Scramble – Australia and New Zealand’s biggest amateur tournament.

It won’t be easy though as only two teams of four can qualify for their shot at glory and play in the regional final which will be played at Pelican Waters in Caloundra in October.

The winning team from the regional final will then swing into action in the national final at Twin Waters on the Sunshine Coast in November.

By the time the annual competition is over, more than 45,000 golfers, both male and female, will have taken part in it.

McLeod Country Golf Club professional Richard Harris said he was sure the competition was going to be as fierce as it always was.

“It’s such a popular competition which is open to ladies from all golf clubs. You don’t have to be a member of McLeod to participate in the competition,” he said.

“We had a terrific number of women playing in the event last year and this year is looking no different.”

Entry fee is $40 and includes lunch and a gift of six golf balls. Entry forms are available from the McLeod Country Golf Club office.

For more information phone the Pro Shop on 07 3376 3666.

McLeod receives flood recovery lift

McLeod Country Golf Club has been buoyed by a $50,000 grant from Golf Queensland to help assist with the club’s flood recovery.

The Mt Ommaney based golf club was heavily affected by the January floods with all 18-holes of the championship golf course under water and severely damaged.

The clubhouse was spared, but the devastating floods caused major damage to the fairways, greens, waterways, bunkers and the watering pumps.

McLeod Country Golf Club has also recently received grants from Queensland Sport and Recreation, QRAA and Brisbane City Council.

Club president Di Paez said she was delighted by the generous support shown by the peak bodies.

“History will show how the 2011 flood decimated the course, but it will also show the commitment demonstrated by the McLeod golfing community to get the course back into tip top shape,” she said.

“We are delighted to receive this assistance which ultimately will help restore the course back to its former glory.

“We have had a number of fundraising events and received some generous donations, however we are still looking for further donations to help us get back on our feet.”

Tee of at McLeod’s beginners clinic

Interested in broadening your horizons and trying something new? McLeod Country Golf Club is holding beginner’s and intermediate clinics this Saturday (July 23rd) from 8am.

The clinic will run over six weeks teaching beginners everything they need to know about the game of golf.

McLeod Country Golf Club’s head professional Richard Harris is hopeful the clinics will inspire keen golfers to consider taking up the sport permanently.

“Golf is a great sport because it offers valuable health benefits, improves hand-eye coordination, encourages interaction with others in a non-threatening environment and allows people to enjoy and appreciate the great outdoors,” he said.

“The clinics are an opportunity for beginners to learn new skills and be active in a safe and enjoyable environment. Many new careers start from humble beginnings.”

The beginner’s clinic runs from 8 to 9am and the intermediate clinic runs from 9 to 10am.

The six week clinic costs $95. For more information and bookings, please call the McLeod Country Golf Club’s Pro Shop on 07 3376 3922.

Captains Corner Wednesday 13 July

Wednesday’s Captains Corner

1. Time Slots There has been an issue with people pulling out of timeslots and moving somewhere else after a person has put their name down beside them. It is quite rude to pull out and leave that person on their own. If for some reason you have to do this please phone the person and let them know.

2. Slow Play On Saturday we found our first group of Members were more than one and half fairways behind the Fellows and 24 minutes behind them finishing. The second group were another fairway behind. These girls know who they are and need to remember that the afternoon field is really tired of hitting off late. The fellows went around in just over 4 hours ( due to having Marshalls out all morning). It just proved that it can be done. We played a 4 Ball alliance which really meant that not all girls should have finished every hole so we should have been quicker than normal not slower.

3. Time out Time in Please remember to put your time out and time in times on the back of your cards and please put an accurate time. Overall this helping everyone remember that we must keep up with the group in front of us and not worry about the ones behind.

4. Dropping When dropping the rule states that the ball must be dropped from shoulder height. It is amazing how low some ladies shoulders are !

5. Dropping from sand. When dropping from sand areas determine the nearest point of relief before dropping. Sometimes it may not be in the side you would like. Also sand filled divots do not count !

6. Championships The Championship draw has been done. Good Luck to everyone. The times have changed from the conditions of Championship Notice. We will now be hitting off at 1030 am on the first tee and 11.00 am off the 10th tee each day. Please check the computer for your tee time.

7. President V’s Captain This draw will be completed by 5pm on the 14th of July.

8. Average of Aggregate This competition is being played on the 27th of July (Divisional Draw) The paper sheet is on the counter in the office and the draw will be done next Thursday the 21st of July.

9. Holden Scramble Don’t forget to organize your team for the Holden Scramble.
